Will DeFi wallets finally break Apple’s walled garden on tap‑to‑pay?

Apple’s been gatekeeping NFC for ages, but with the DMA pressure and newer tech, could DeFi wallets finally get direct tap-to-pay on iOS? It feels like a massive unlock if hardware devs can bypass the restrictions natively. Anyone hearing rumors about which apps might drop first?

I think DeFi wallets could be a game-changer for non-Apple ecosystems on tap-to-pay if they can get the partnerships right and make the onboarding process seamless. We've seen how successful wallets like MetaMask have been on Android and the web, so it's not a stretch to imagine similar success with iOS.

I'm not getting my hopes up just yet, Apple has a reputation for being tight-fisted when it comes to 3rd party integrations. But if DeFi wallets can somehow pull off the magic, it would be a huge win for decentralized finance and set a precedent for other tech giants to follow.

Apple guards that NFC chip like it's the crown jewels, so I doubt they'll budge unless regulators twist their arm. Even if they do open it up a bit, they'll probably slap so many fees on it that it's barely worth it. Don't hold your breath for a seamless experience anytime soon.

Honestly, I wouldn't hold my breath—Apple is super protective of that NFC chip. Unless there's some cheeky workaround or EU regulation forcing their hand, they aren't handing over the keys anytime soon. We'll likely be stuck side-loading or waiting for official support forever.

Apple holds that NFC leash way too tight to let this happen without a fight, but if regulators actually force them to open the gates, DeFi adoption is gonna go parabolic. I’d love to tap my phone with a non-custodial wallet instead of Apple Pay for once.

I'm hyped to see DeFi wallets pushing for interoperability, especially with tap-to-pay. Apple's strict guidelines have limited consumer choice for a while now, so any progress in this area would be a major win. It's time for Apple to take a step back and let the market innovate instead of controlling the flow.
