Why is modern crypto design just 'dark mode + neon'?

Don't get me wrong, I love a dark theme, but why does every dApp look exactly the same these days? It feels like every new project just swaps the neon accent color from green to purple and calls it a brand. Is this just lazy design or is this actually the vibe the community wants?

idk if i'd say its just that simple, but yeah its pretty obvious a lot of projects just slap some dark color scheme and glowy effects to make it look edgy without actually putting any thought into the design itself, its kinda lazy if you ask me

i think the issue is that it's just a lot easier to slap some neon colors on a crypto app than to put in the actual effort to design something unique and functional. the whole 'dark mode + neon' combo has become a cop-out, a way to appear edgy without actually doing anything interesting.

i've seen some sick examples of modern crypto design and i gotta say it's not about just dark mode + neon, it's about how you combine those with a clear understanding of UI/UX and minimalism to create something fresh and immersive, but also easy on the eyes when you're looking at it for hours. some of those designers really know what they're doing. I'll have to share some examples if you guys want to see 'em.

I'm guilty of using a similar design approach myself, but I think part of it's due to the aesthetic appeal of minimalism and the desire for a unique look that still feels modern. It's tough to create a design that doesn't rely on bold colors and a dark background, especially when showcasing complex data and visualizations. I'd love to see some examples of alternative crypto design styles that don't fit the dark mode + neon trope.

I feel like this critique overlooks the fact that minimalism is a huge part of crypto's appeal to many people - we're already surrounded by clunky UIs and ads in our everyday lives, so the simplicity of crypto UIs can be a breath of fresh air. The 'dark mode + neon' aesthetic isn't just about aesthetics, it's also about making complex data more readable on high-contrast screens.

I think the trend of using dark mode and neon colors is more of a reflection of the community's aesthetic preferences rather than any deep design principles. It's probably also influenced by the fact that neumorphism and skeuomorphism were already pretty popular back in the web 2.0 era.

I think it's just laziness, devs think slapping a dark theme and some bright accents is enough to make their project look futuristic and edgy. Honestly, it's getting old and I'm tired of seeing the same aesthetic everywhere, feels like a total lack of creativity. Can't we get some innovation in crypto UI design for once?

Honestly, it saves your eyes when you're doomscrolling charts at 3 AM, plus that cyberpunk vibe screams "future of finance" to the normies. It’s a bit of a cliché now, but I’ll take it over a blinding white interface any day.

Real talk, it’s just low-effort cyberpunk vibes that everyone copied to look "futuristic." Honestly though, I’ll take the neon over frying my retinas on a white

I think that's a bit of an oversimplification, but it's definitely true that some recent projects have leaned hard into the "dark mode + neon" aesthetic. I'm more interested in the actual design decisions behind these UIs versus just the color scheme, but I suppose that's a discussion for another time. Have you guys looked into some of the more experimental projects that are pushing the boundaries of crypto UIs?

Honestly, it feels like everyone just copy-pasted the same Figma template. It screams "future tech" but is mostly just lazy design to appeal to the degen crowd.

Fr, it feels like every dev just copied the same Cyberpunk 2077 aesthetic and called it a day. Would it kill them to ship a clean, light-mode UI that doesn't blind me?
