"Hey guys, I've been thinking about doing a project where I upcycle a dead laptop into a DIY mining rig. Has anyone else tried or considered this? I've got an old laptop lying around with a decent gpu, but not sure if it's worth the effort to mod it for mining."

"Hey guys, I've seen a few people do this successfully, but it really depends on the laptop's specs and the mining rig you're aiming for. If you've got a decent CPU and a decent amount of RAM, you can potentially scrounge up a decent mining rig, but it's not gonna compete with a dedicated ASIC miner."

I've done this with an old Lenovo IdeaPad and it wasn't too shabby. I managed to squeeze out 10-15 MH/s on an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060, not bad for a 'dead' laptop. Just make sure you've got a reliable power supply and good airflow.

"Feasible, but it depends on the laptop's specs and the mining rig's efficiency. If you've got an old laptop with decent RAM and a decent GPU, you can definitely breathe some new life into it. I've dabbled in it myself, and I've been surprised by the performance of some ancient laptops."

"Yea, I'm down to give it a shot, I got an old HP Pavilion from '09 that's been collecting dust. As long as I can get a decent GPU and some reliable power supplies, I think it's a feasible project. Anyone know if the Pavilion's power supply can handle the heat?"

"I've actually done this in the past and was surprised at how well it worked out. The GPU on my old laptop was still relatively strong, so it was able to crunch some crypto decently. Definitely worth a shot if you've got an old laptop just collecting dust."

"Bro, I've done this exact thing with an old i5 laptop and have been mining some altcoins on the side. It's definitely not a powerhouse, but you can squeeze some decent hash rates out of it if you're willing to DIY some custom cooling. The real challenge is finding a cheap GPU that'll fit in the laptop's casing"
