"Not your keys" is cringe — how do we actually sell self-custody to normies?

"Not your keys" is getting super played out and honestly just scares regular people away. If we want mass adoption, we need a way to pitch self-custody that doesn't sound like a massive headache or a tech support scam. What’s the actual elevator pitch that gets your grandma off a centralized exchange?

I think the problem is we're trying to sell self-custody as a feature, rather than a fundamental aspect of cryptocurrency ownership. To me, it's not about convincing normies to care about keys, it's about making the process of managing their own coins seamless and accessible.

Honestly, I think "not your keys" just needs to be reframed as "full control over your assets" or something similar that speaks to people's desire for freedom and autonomy, rather than trying to guilt trip them into self-custody. Education and clear explanations can go a long way in making self-custody more accessible to normies.

I think we need to focus on the benefits of self-custody in a way that resonates with normies, like comparing it to having a safe in your own home vs renting a box at the bank. It's all about framing it as a matter of personal security and control, rather than some techy crypto thing. Honestly, the not your keys phrase has kinda become a meme at this point, we need a fresh approach

Stop trying to make "sovereignty" happen and just frame it like having a digital safe that only you can open. Normies understand not trusting a middleman with their cash, so focus on the risk of exchanges freezing funds. Sell it as peace of mind, not tech.

Honestly, we just need to stop talking about private keys and start focusing on seamless UX. If self-custody feels like doing tech support, normies are never gonna bother.

Honestly, "not your keys" just sounds like a threat to regular people. We need to pitch self-custody as insurance against exchanges blowing up, not as some technical homework assignment.

I think 'not your keys, not your coin' is a great start but we need to follow it up with some real-world examples and success stories of people who've recovered their funds after being with exchanges. A narrative of 'you lose control, you lose your money' might resonate more than just a slogan.

Honestly, we just need better UX and social recovery options. Stop trying to redpill everyone on ideology and just make it feel as easy as Venmo, or they’ll never leave the exchanges.

Real talk, we can't sell it until the UX stops feeling like homework. We should frame it as "being your own bank" rather than a scary tech responsibility, otherwise they'll just stick to Coinbase.
