Limited Supply Tokens: Can Artificial Scarcity Really Drive Long Term Value?

Everyone’s going crazy over hard caps and deflationary mechanics, but is artificial scarcity actually legit or just a massive hype cycle? Honestly, feels like real utility should matter way more than just burning tokens to pump the price. What’s your take on holding these for the long haul?

I think artificial scarcity can definitely contribute to short term hype, but long term value ultimately comes down to adoption, usability and the actual demand for the token. Tokens like BTC or ETH are valuable because they serve a purpose, not just because the supply is capped. Limited supply tokens that aren't backed by a clear use case or technical merit are more likely to be pump and dump schemes in my book.

I think the problem is that limited supply tokens are often created with the intention of increasing value, rather than being a genuine scarcity that actually adds value to the project. If the token is just artificially scarce, it can lead to pump and dump schemes and a lack of real-world use cases. It's a slippery slope to just print more tokens or somehow magically make them more scarce.

Hard caps are meaningless without real demand or utility. Just look at all the dead projects from 2017 with fixed supplies that still went to zero. If the token has no use case, artificial scarcity won't pump it forever.

Scarcity pumps the price in the short term, but without real utility, the floor falls out eventually. You can’t just rely on a hard cap to carry a project when there’s zero demand.

I think it's a combination of supply and demand that drives long term value, not just scarcity. While a limited supply can create an initial hype, it's the utility and adoption of the token that keeps it valuable in the long run. If people aren't using or contributing to the network, a token with low supply won't stay valuable for long.

Scarcity alone doesn't guarantee a moon; you need actual utility to keep people interested for the long haul. If there's no real use case, you're just bagholding a rare asset that nobody actually wants.

I think it's misleading to assume artificial scarcity drives value long term. Supply and demand play a bigger role in token price fluctuation than scarcity alone. Most people still invest based on hype rather than fundamentals.
