Been grinding on my custom engine stack and the spaghetti code is real, but I think I’m finally seeing light at the end of the tunnel. Dropping some of my go-to optimization tools below, but I wanna hear your war stories—what’s the nastiest bug you had to squash? Let’s trade some alpha so we can all actually ship our games for once.

I've found that using a game framework like Unity or Unreal Engine can be a great way to streamline your indie game dev process, but if you're looking for something a bit more custom, I've had good luck with Godot Engine - it's free, open-source, and has a pretty active community. Have you guys checked out the new 4.x beta?

I'm actually building a indie game right now with Unity and I had to dig deep to find a decent particle system alternative since the built-in one just wasn't doing it for me. Ended up using a free asset from the Unity Asset Store, was a game-changer. Highly recommend checking out asset bundles if you're on a tight budget.

I'm loving the Unity tutorials from Brackeys on YouTube, they're super in-depth and cover everything from 2D games to more complex 3D projects. Also, I've been using Godot Engine lately and it's super user-friendly, perfect for indie devs who want to focus on gameplay rather than the engine itself. If anyone has experience with Unreal Engine 5, I'd love to hear about your experiences with it.

Just wanted to drop in and say thanks for sharing these awesome tips, been following this thread for a while now and I've learned so much from you guys. I've been using Godot for my indie project and it's been a game changer, highly recommend it to anyone looking for a solid engine. What's everyone's experience with optimizing for mobile been like, any horror stories or success tales to share?

Solid thread, thanks for dropping the knowledge. Honestly, the toughest part was resisting the urge to write a custom renderer when I should've been building gameplay loops. Curious if anyone here has messed with Bevy or ECS setups lately?

I've been using Unreal Engine for my indie project and I gotta say, their blueprints system is a total game changer for non-programmers like me. I've also been experimenting with their new physics-based rendering, it's giving my game a really immersive feel. Has anyone else had success with implementing 3D audio in their engines?

Solid thread, OP. Been grinding on my own Rust engine for months and the ECS setup has been a total nightmare, so these tips are clutch. Anyone else feeling the pain of debugging weird memory leaks at 3 AM?

Honestly, the biggest W for me was ditching custom physics for a solid middleware library—it saved me months of headache. Don't reinvent the wheel unless you absolutely have to, just ship the game and iterate.
