Is the UN's NYC Blockchain Week a genuine push for global standards or just hype for regulators?

Saw the UN is doing a Blockchain Week in NYC and I can't tell if it's a legit effort for global standards or just regulators chasing clout. Feels like every big summit is just noise these days. Anyone else think this is mostly for show?

I think it's a mix of both hype and genuine effort, to be honest. The fact that they're inviting major players in the space and exploring use cases for blockchain in global development is a step in the right direction, but we all know that bureaucrats can be slow to adapt to new tech. Maybe they just want to get ahead of the curve and establish some kind of regulatory framework before it's too late.

Honestly, I think it's a bit of both - they really do want to set some standards, but the fact that they're behind a lot of this suggests it's also a way for them to get a foot in the door for stricter regulation. Still, if we can get a unified framework that actually works for everyone, I'd be all for it. Problem is, so far, we haven't seen anything too concrete come out of these kinds of events.

Bro, it’s definitely mostly hype. They’ll talk about standards all week, but we know the real innovation is already happening outside their control.

It’s probably 90% hype and 10% actual policy, just another excuse for regulators to network. Real standards come from devs building, not roundtables in Manhattan. I’ll wait for the GitHub repos before I get excited.

I think it's a mix of both, they're trying to establish some actual standards but also using it as an opportunity to calm down regulators and show they're on top of things. The fact that they're involving some big players in the space is a good sign, but we'll have to wait and see if anything tangible comes out of it. Either way, it's definitely worth keeping an eye on, could be a big deal for the future of crypto regulatory frameworks.

Honestly, it feels like just another networking circle jerk for suits who don't touch the code. Real standards come from dev consensus, not regulators chatting in a hotel ballroom. Unless there’s actual tech or binding policy coming out, it’s probably just noise.
