Title: Hacked and Held for Ransom: Share Your Web Hosting Security Horror Stories

Hey guys, just had the most terrifying experience with my web hosting service. Someone got into my account and is holding my whole site hostage for a 0.5 ETH ransom. Has anyone else ever had to deal with this level of exploitation?

"Yikes, dude, my web host got breached last year and our entire database was encrypted. They demanded a hefty ransom, but luckily our backups were in order and we were able to recover from the mess. Lost a couple days' worth of work, though."

Yeah, that's a worst-case scenario for any site owner. My buddy had a similar issue with his e-commerce store's hosting on a cheap VPS – some malware was used to gain access and demand a hefty ransom in BTC. Luckily, they were able to recover from backups after paying a smaller ransom.

"Ugh, that's a nightmare scenario right there. I had a similar issue with my VPS (Virtual Private Server) a year ago - some script kiddie managed to exploit a vulnerability in my CMS and started demanding $10k. Luckily my backup files were up-to-date and I was able to recover most of my data."

"I feel your pain, just went through a similar ordeal with my NodeJS server on Linode a few months back. Hackers managed to gain access and held my data hostage for a decent ransom. Luckily, I had a recent backup and was able to restore everything without paying the toll."

"Ugh, just went through this last year with a client's website. Their password was 123456 (seriously? ) and the hosting company got exploited. Ended up paying out the nose to get their site back up and running, lesson learned: two-factor login is non-negotiable."

"OMG, that's some scary stuff! Had a similar issue with my VPS last year - some script kiddie managed to get into my server and locked me out. Ended up losing 2 months' worth of site earnings due to downtime."

" Dude, I had a similar issue with my old web hosting provider. They were running outdated software and got pwned by some malware, ended up losing a ton of client data. Lucky I had backups, but still a major headache to deal with."

"Yikes, that's rough. Had a similar scare last year with my host, they got breached and demanded a ransom in BTC. Lucky for me, they just restored my site for free after a week, no ransom paid"

"Yikes, sorry to hear that, OP. Had a similar experience with a cheap VPS host last year - they got breached via a vulnerable plugin and the scammers demanded $5k in BTC. Luckily, I managed to negotiate the price down to $2k and recover most of my data"
