Title: Can VPNs and Tor be used for secure remote work on public Wi-Fi?

Hey fellow forum members, I've been debating with a friend whether VPNs (Virtual Private Networks) and Tor (The Onion Router) are enough to ensure secure remote work on public Wi-Fi networks. From my understanding, a VPN encrypts your internet traffic and hides your IP address, while Tor routes your traffic through multiple nodes, making it harder to track. Anyone have experience with both methods and can weigh in on their effectiveness?

"Dude, while VPNs and Tor can definitely boost security when working on public Wi-Fi, it's not a full-proof solution. They can hide your IP and encrypt your traffic, but they're not a magic fix for the actual security risks of public Wi-Fi, like man-in-the-middle attacks."

"Yea, VPNs and Tor are definitely viable options for secure remote work on public Wi-Fi. Using a reputable, no-logs VPN can encrypt your connection and make it more difficult for hackers to sniff your data. Just make sure to choose a VPN that supports WireGuard or OpenVPN, as they're more secure."

"IMO, VPNs and Tor can give you some extra security, but they ain't a guarantee. I mean, public Wi-Fi is public, so you're still at risk of man-in-the-middle attacks. If you're working remotely on a public network, I'd still recommend using a physical mobile hotspot with a decent secure connection."

"Dude, VPNs and Tor are a solid combo for public Wi-Fi, but don't think it's foolproof. You're still at risk for man-in-the-middle attacks or weak VPN passwords. Use a reputable VPN with strong encryption, and always check for those HTTPS green locks"

"Yea, I've been using NordVPN on public Wi-Fi for months now and haven't had any issues. It adds an extra layer of security, but it's not a 100% guarantee that you're completely safe. Still way better than browsing without it, though."
