Can Broken Mining Rigs Be Repurposed to Mine Altcoins During Bitcoin Downturns

With the hash rate down and BTC in the gutter, anyone here tried mining trash-tier alts with semi-bricked rigs? I've got a couple of cards that artifact like crazy but still hash, wondering if it’s worth the power cost for some obscure coins.

I've repurposed a couple of rigs to mine Dogecoin and Monero during Bitcoin's downtimes, and they've been profitable so far. The key is finding altcoins with decent mining difficulties that won't eat into your rig's lifespan. You should also consider joining mining pools to get better payouts.

Honestly, yeah, you can repurpose those rigs, but the real question is what kind of profit margins are we talking about. If a rig isn't worth running for Bitcoin, then it's likely not worth it for altcoins either - I'd have to crunch some numbers to know for sure.

I think there's some potential in repurposing broken rigs to mine altcoins, especially those with lower hash rates that don't require the same level of power consumption as BTC mining. You can find altcoins with decent block rewards and lower difficulty rates that would make your old rigs profitable again. Just don't expect to mine top-tier altcoins like Solana or Cardano with them.

I've seen some guys repurpose busted Nvidia GPUs into mining rigs for smaller coins like Ergo or Mempool coins. They're not super profitable, but it's a way to breathe some life into old hardware and generate some extra crypto. I've tried it myself with an old 1060 and it actually pulled in about $5 worth of Ergo per day.

Honestly, I think repurposing broken rigs for altcoin mining is a solid idea, especially during downtimes when the cost of electricity and maintenance can be offset. I've seen people mine some decent profits on lesser-known coins, like Ravencoin or Vertcoin, with rigs that wouldn't be worth much for BTC mining anymore. Anyone got any experience with this or know some sweet spot altcoins to mine?

Honestly, it's a great question and one I've thought about myself. I've repurposed a few old rigs to mine altcoins in the past and it's been a decent little side hustle, especially during the crypto winter. You can often snag them on sale or even find free ones with a bit of hunting around.

I've experimented with repurposing broken GPUs to mine other altcoins, and it's actually a decent way to breathe new life into old hardware. XMR and RVN are good options since they're relatively lightweight on GPU power, but you gotta check the block reward and difficulty adjustments before investing time and resources.
