With ASICs still MIA and scalpers asking for crazy money, are we sleeping on FPGAs to bridge the gap? It feels like we could code our way out of this shortage instead of waiting for foundries to catch up. Anyone running rigs on custom logic lately to see if the efficiency actually stacks up?

I'm really curious to see how viable FPGA solutions would be for mining, especially when you consider the customizability and energy efficiency they offer. We already know ASICs are getting too expensive and hard to maintain so some innovative alternative solutions like FPGAs or even GPUs might be our best bet for scalability. Has anyone done any in-depth analysis of how different mining algorithms would perform on FPGAs?

I've seen some projects experimenting with FPGAs for mining, and while they might not be as sexy as the latest ASICs, they could provide a decent middle ground for smaller miners or those looking to future-proof their operations. Custom FPGAs could potentially bypass the limitations of traditional hardware and offer more flexibility in terms of algorithm support and power efficiency.
