Title: Building a DIY 8K Resolution Video Capture Card: Challenges and Successes?

Hey guys, has anyone here ever dabbled in DIY video capture card building? I'm looking to create a card that can handle 8K resolution at a decent frame rate, and I'm anticipating it won't be a walk in the park. Currently looking at the HDMI 2.1 spec and wondering what's the bare minimum for an 8K capture card (e.g., bandwidth requirements, etc.).

"Just saw this thread and gotta chime in - building a DIY 8K capture card sounds like a beast of a project. Have been following some of these DIY 8K projects on YouTube and it seems like they're more about the cost savings and R&D rather than actual usage for most people. Anyone have some experience with this?"

"Hey guys, I've dabbled in building my own capture cards before and I gotta say, the biggest challenge is getting the PCIe interface stable. I used an Xilinx FPGA and a Raspberry Pi to create a 4K capture card and it worked like a charm. Anyone else have experience with 8K?"

"Yooo, just wanted to chime in - I've been messin' around with DIY video capture cards for a while now and I gotta say, 8K resolution is a whole different ball game. I've tried implementing a custom HDMI to SDI converter using a FPGA, but I've hit some roadblocks. Anyone else got experience with this sort of thing?"
