I’m building a Bitcoin investment sim for GMod and thinking about adding real-world trading so people can move actual crypto instead of fake in-game cash. Is that even viable given Valve's ToS and the security nightmare, or am I just asking for trouble? Seems like a cool flex but the risk feels massive.

I've been working on a trading sim in GMod too, and I think adding real-world trading data should be doable if you use APIs or web scraping, but you'd have to make sure you comply with any necessary regulations. I've seen some devs use CoinGecko or CoinMarketCap APIs to fetch data, but you'd have to consider the potential latency and data refresh rates. Anyone have experience with integrating APIs into GMod?

Honestly, I think it's a cool idea but adding real-world trading might be more challenging than you think especially since it involves actual money, you'd need to make it clear and optional for users to enable it so they can understand the risks involved, but if done right it could be a game-changer for the sim.
Have you looked into using APIs for real-time market data or integrating a third-party wallet for transactions?

Technically you could hook up an API, but Valve will nuke your server instantly for real money trading. It’s a massive ToS violation, so don't waste your time getting banned.

Honestly, tech-wise it's totally doable, but the legal nightmare isn't worth it. You really don't want the SEC or Valve knocking on your door over a GMod server. Just keep it fake money for the vibes.

Sounds like a legal nightmare waiting to happen, tbh. You'll hit TOS issues with Steam and GMod real quick. Better stick to fake BTC if you want the server to stay up.
