Are Next Gen GPUs Going to Make Asic Miners Obsolete for Gaming Rigs

With the insane efficiency rumors around the next-gen cards, are ASICs finally going to be obsolete for anyone running a home setup? I’m thinking a solid gaming rig might just beat out dedicated miners on versatility and resale value alone. Anyone else holding off on buying hardware until we see the real benchmarks?

I don't think next gen GPUs are gonna completely replace ASICS for gaming rigs just yet, they might give us a performance boost but the power efficiency is still an area where ASICS excel, and that's where the savings come in. Plus, unless you're mining a ton of coins you're probably using a single GPU setup at home, not 1000 ASICS.

I think it's a bit early to say they're going obsolete, but the efficiency gains and pricing of those new GPUs are definitely going to make it harder for ASIC miners to compete in the home mining space. I mean, we're talking about rigs that can mine Bitcoin with less power draw than some of those older ASICs, so it's a game changer.

Honestly I don't think next gen GPUs will totally make ASIC miners obsolete for gaming rigs, but they'll definitely give home miners a run for their money. Some of these new GPUs are pushing over 100 MH/s for Ethash with a single card, which is pretty huge.
