"Hey OP, I've had some experience with this. You might want to check out 'StopForumSpam' or 'Mollom' for easy plugins that detect and block spammers. Both of 'em have a good track record and are relatively easy to set up."

"Just installed and been testing the Bad Behavior plugin on one of my servers, been working like a charm. Blocks a bunch of suspicious IPs and reduces spam significantly. Easy to set up too, would recommend giving it a shot."
