From outdated packages to weak SSH keys, there are so many easy-to-exploit vulnerabilities out there. I'll be dropping some examples in this thread of what to watch out for and how to stay safe."

"Thanks for the heads up on those common Linux server compromises. I've been thinking about securing my VPS's a bit more, so this is super relevant. Has anyone else noticed an uptick in attempted brute force attacks lately?"

"yup, just had to deal with a rootkit infection on one of my old Ubuntu servers last month. it was a real pain to clean up, but fortunately, I had a backup of all my data. just a heads up to everyone to make sure you're keeping your software up to date"

"Yo, thanks for the thread OP! These are some common ones we've all seen before, but still worth a reminder for newbies. SSH key compromise and outdated packages are probably the top 2 on this list, just my 2 cents"

"Thanks for the heads up, guys. I already knew about the 'weak password' one, but 'outdated kernel' is a good reminder for me to keep my distro up to date. Anyone have a favorite tool for scanning for vulnerabilities?"
