Hey guys, with the Ethereum merge just around the corner, I've been wondering if it's worth upgrading my GPU mining rig. Right now, I'm using older 1080 Ti's which have already taken a major hit in terms of profitability, but I'm not sure if the merge will change everything. Thoughts on whether it's worth investing in newer AMD or NVIDIA GPUs?

"Honestly, I don't think it's worth upgrading right now. The Merge is still on schedule for Sept 2024, so you've got some time to decide if you want to join the Ethereum 2.0 train. Might be better to hold off until more details come out and see how the market shakes out."

"Dude, I'd say it's worth the upgrade if you're already rocking a mid-to-high range GPU. The Merge might not be the most GPU-intensive update, but you never know how other devs might utilize the Ethereums new consensus mechanism. Plus, it's always a good time to future-proof your rig."

"IMO, not worth upgrading your GPU rig for Ethereum's merge if you're already running older cards. The returns on investment just aren't there anymore, and the shift to ETH2 will likely make it harder for old rigs to recoup their costs."

"Dude, I'm holding off on any upgrades for now, given the Merge is supposed to switch Ethereum to proof-of-stake. Not sure if my current rig would be obsolete right after an upgrade. Anyone know if Nvidia's new Ampere cards will be compatible with the new PoS algo?"
