"Hey guys, thought this was a good topic for discussion. I've heard of companies firing white hat hackers who uncover serious vulnerabilities in their systems, citing concerns over 'embarrassment' or 'brand damage.' Has anyone else come across a similar situation or know of any notable cases?"

"Dude, I think it depends on the org and the specific rules they have in place. If they hired someone to find vulnerabilities, they should expect them to be identified and reported. But for sure, some places can be pretty reactive, so it's not uncommon to see a white hat get canned for 'being too effective'."

"Dude, it's not about the hacking itself, it's about the intent and the company's policy. If you're contractually bound to test their systems and you do it in a white-hat way, I'd say you've got a solid defense. But, it always depends on the company's culture and how they perceive 'doing your job'."

Yeah, I've seen cases where even white hat hackers can be in a gray area. If they're doing their job, it's not malicious, but if their methods or findings are embarrassing for the company, they might get canned. It's all about perception, and some orgs just can't handle the truth.

"Yo, I've seen some companies actually incentivize their white hat teams to hack their own systems, so that makes it tough to get fired, but it depends on the company culture and policies, right?"
