Are AI assistants turning us into couch‑potato coders?

Feels like we’re all just copy-pasting from ChatGPT nowadays instead of actually grinding through the logic. Are we leveling up as devs or just getting lazy and turning into prompt monkeys? Kinda worried my brain's gonna rot if I don't start typing more actual syntax.

I think it's way too early to say AI assistants are replacing human coding skills, but I do see some potential for abuse, like relying too much on auto-completion and not learning the basics. That being said, tools like AI-powered code review can actually be super helpful in identifying and fixing errors. We just need to use these tools judiciously and not let them become a crutch.

I think AI assistants are more of a tool to augment our productivity rather than replace human effort and creativity. If anything, I think they're making it easier for people to start coding who wouldn't have had the time or motivation otherwise, not turn us into couch potatoes. Maybe the real question is how we can use AI to create more engaging and hands-on learning experiences for coders.

I think this debate is a bit blown out of proportion. AI assistants like GitHub Co-Pilot or Kite aren't replacing actual coding skills, but rather helping coders like us focus on the creative aspects of development, while handling tedious tasks. That being said, it's on us to not rely entirely on them and actually learn to code ourselves.
